When things go quiet on the web it’s usually because we are really busy working behind the scenes. This is totally the case lately. We have been strategizing and figuring out what and how to move forward with LW. We have some crazy, big ideas sometimes and have to think through them in order to begin them. We have been reaching out to potential industry partners. We are working through new products and ways to support production, market them and how best to sell them. There is A LOT going on right now and we are so stoked. Please be patient with us and know that we are definitely moving ahead.

We are, as always open for help, ideas and relationships to help our cause of clean water for all.

We just sent off funding for 2 more families to receive bio-sand filters. These filters provide over 99% filtration of parasites and bacteria that cause sickness and death. They last over 20 years. It only takes us 17 shirts sold to provide 1 BSF. Help us reach that goal bi-weekly in 2012. That’s very reasonable. Thank you so much.

Wow! This site is in full effect. My hope is that you will be inspired to greatness or inspired to higher greatness. There is a problem with another human being not having access to clean water. I believe that even if we all just gave a buck of our extra we would be able to erase this concern from millions of people. Most of us can give more. I promise that this organization will NEVER lose focus of what its purpose is and NEVER use the funding for other than that purpose. That purpose would be to give hope to those in need. Please look through our products, buy what you can (we’ll make more) but if you don’t find something you like please donate or support another org that is making a difference.

This past summer we went through a shipment of donated sewing machines and cleaned them up and put them into service. The ladies will be using their skills to use the machines as a lab. They will receive business skills trainings so they can work towards having their very own shops. They will be sewing school uniforms for local sales. They are also working on products to be sold in the US and proceeds to be sent back to provide clean water to more people and profit share with the ladies. We will be selling bags.

BSFs are made by a group of hard working ladies at SOHIP headquarters. The work is tough but allows the ladies to come in for half of a day and then return home to take care of their home and families.

In a nutshell, the filters are made out of concrete and a piece of surgical grade tubing for water flow. They are about 3′ high and are filled with 2 layers of stones and a layer of washed biosand. A gerry can of dirty water is poured through a diffuser tray. Gravity forces the dirty water through the layers of sand and rock, which traps the parasites and particulates, and then forces the clean water through the tubing and out the spout. The water comes out over 99% clean and is clear and actually tastes good. When our teams go over to Africa for work, we drink the water from the BSFs and no one has gotten sick yet.

The BSFs are an economical way to provide individual families access to clean water in their homes. A BSF only costs $85 and has no expiration date yet. They have been tested for 25 years and they filter the same as when they were installed. When installed in homes, the head of family MUST attend a training session and a hygiene and sanitation training.
